Michael Getler, deputy managing editor of The Washington Post,
was appointed yesterday the executive editor of the International
Herald Tribune, a global English-language newspaper with
headquarters in Paris and owned jointly by The Post and the New York
Times.
Getler, a 26-year Post veteran, will succeed John Vinocur on
July 1. Vinocur, a former foreign correspondent for the Times,
stepped down after 10 years as editor, but will remain with the
Herald Tribune as a special correspondent.
Under the system used by The Post and the Times,
responsibility rotates periodically for financial and editorial
management of the Paris newspaper.
