BENNINGTON, Vt. Hemmings Motor News, the self-proclaimed "bible
of the collector car hobby since 1954," is a funky publication,
headquartered in a funky converted industrial building (the old
Sibley Machine Shop) in this funky city.
Each month, this book-size, catalog-style publication of 500 to
800 pages goes out to 210,000 loyal subscribers, and another 50,000
copies are sold on newsstands nationwide for $5.99 each.
The May issue lists more than 6,500 cars and trucks for sale and
another 8,500 ads for parts and services.
Not bad for an advertising flyer founded by Ernest Hemmings in
Quincy, Ill. Hemmings knew he was on to something when he sold 500
copies of his four-page inaugural issue ...
