Dr. Edward D. Frank was one of those old-fashioned doctors who had
what used to be called a "bedside manner." He would sit by his
patients for hours, comforting them and answering their anxious
questions.When interns at Beth Israel Hospital started rounds at 4
a.m., they would find that Dr. Frank had been there an hour earlier.
"Ed was a giant in many ways," Dr. Elliott Vesell, of Penn State
University's College of Medicine, said yesterday. "At Harvard, he was
known as a triple threat: a great teacher, a great researcher, and a
great provider of patient care."
