Fran Fraschilla, who guided Manhattan to postseason play in
each of his four seasons, is the new men's basketball coach at St.
John's.
A St. John's spokesman said the school will officially
announce Fraschilla's hiring today at a 3:30 p.m. news conference.
Fraschilla, who openly campaigned for the job, replaces Brian
Mahoney, forced to resign March 11 after the Red Storm finished
11-17 -- its worst season in 33 years. It also marked the first time
St. John's had three straight non-winning seasons since 1917-20.
The 37-year-old Fraschilla, who led the Jaspers to a 17-12
record and a berth in the National Invitation Tournament, was 85-35
