SOMERVILLE Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone is moving to dissolve the
city's Board of Health, which rebuffed his repeated requests to
reconsider a workplace smoking ban, instituted in October, that
angered city officials and many business owners.
Curtatone has proposed cutting funding for the health board in the
budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1. He would replace the
three-member board with an appointed health commissioner and a nine-
member advisory panel.
Although the debate over returning smoking to Somerville bars
became moot yesterday when Governor Mitt Romney signed a statewide
