I am always happy to see articles about the joys of minor
league baseball {"Take Me Out to the Hot Tub," Style, May 13}. As
Donald P. Baker said, the minor league -- with low prices, a
family-friendly atmosphere and players still delighted to sign
autographs -- is where baseball remains a pleasure to watch.
Indeed, the minors have no lockouts, no holdouts, no
million-dollar contracts and no walkouts. The minors, unlike the
major leagues, remain the sole place in professional baseball where
only the umpire can call a strike.
In his article, Mr. Baker mentioned the hot tub at the new
ballpark in Salem, Va., noting that the Beloit (Wis.) Snappers have
the only other minor league ...
