The soccer players at Westborough High School had a not-so-nice nickname for their old soccer field: the Swamp. It was bog-like, even in dry weather.

"The water used to come up this high," said senior Dan Heatherman, pointing to a spot midway up his right shin guard. "It was ridiculous."

The contrast between the Swamp and the new home field of the state champion Rangers couldn't be greater. As it shimmered under a fading sun on a recent afternoon, Westborough's new bright-green, multipurpose field was the picture of agricultural perfection.
