New England is known for its lobster rolls and clam chowder, but
when did it happen that the area became a hotbed for warm roast beef
sandwiches? We're not talking about the cold sliced-beef sandwich
you'd pick up at a deli counter - we're talking a mountain of hot
beef on a fluffy, browned, and buttered bun. A number of area shops
specialize in these sandwiches and (no surprise) feature the word
"roast beef" in their names.
Jack Barounis, owner of Bedford House of Roast Beef, says these
sandwiches are popular here because we have a varied populace that
