Oscar De La Hoya is the "Golden Boy" all right, and more. He
disposed of no ordinary man tonight, slicing up the legendary Julio
Cesar Chavez until his face was virtually obliterated by a mask of
blood.
The 23-year-old De La Hoya demonstrated far too much speed and
power for Chavez, who will be 34 next month, overwhelming him from
the outset until the bout was mercifully stopped at 2 minutes 37
seconds of the fourth round.
The largely pro-Chavez crowd of 15,283, watching in 95-degree
heat at Caesars Palace outdoor stadium, was shocked at the one-sided
beating, the first time Chavez had been stopped in 100 bouts.
