Take any piece of land in western Prince William County, and
residents will tick off the proposals and developments that have
encroached on their vanishing rural landscape. But there are 800
acres they need never worry about.
Just north of Interstate 66 along the Fauquier County border
near Thoroughfare Gap, the Bull Run Mountains Natural Area is making
a comeback from an untended, polluted landscape to a pristine
woodland with well-defined trails open for public enjoyment.
Thanks are due to a year-old nonprofit organization, the
Friends of Bull Run, which assumed its role as caretaker of the land
