Don't look to "Friday Night Lights" (2004) for motivational
speeches. It's one of the more surprising and refreshing aspects of
this high school football drama that there isn't much in the way of
imploring kids to win one for the Gipper or Rudy or another
convenient inspirational figure of the moment. Based on the acclaimed
nonfiction book by journalist H. G. Bissinger, "Lights" chronicles
the 1988 season of West Texas's Odessa Permian High. Big as things
are in Texas, nothing is bigger than the town's passion for school
football, and coach Gary Gaines (Billy Bob Thornton) feels the
