CAMBRIDGE - Ben Evett had a problem.
The Actors' Shakespeare Project artistic director had set the
dates, rented the space, and lined up most of the cast for his mid-
May production of "Julius Caesar," the third offering in the
company's inaugural season. Visions of a spare, incisive rendering of
Shakespeare's gargantuan drama loomed in his head.
But by late winter, Evett, the show's director, still hadn't found
an actor to play Cassius, the notorious conspirator and assassin. A
versatile performer himself, Evett assumed he could step into the
role if he could find a director seasoned and deft enough to take
over his cast and concept.
