After you've worked your way up through the minor leagues, sitting
around and feeling sorry for yourself isn't the wisest option when
things go wrong. You remember that one man's misfortune can be
another's opportunity, so you look for ways to be productive.
Take Dave Goucher, the Bruins' play-by-play announcer on WBZ
radio. When the NHL lockout commenced, it looked as if he faced a
bleak winter, workwise, doing fill-in duty for Gil Santos or Tom
Cuddy delivering drive-time sports reports.
So Goucher went to WBZ program director Peter Casey and asked if
there was anything else he could do to help out around the station.
