So, Annika Sorenstam's bid for the Grand Slam has melted away, her
inability to handle another US Golf Association setup doing her in at
Cherry Hills Country Club outside of Denver.
For all her greatness and historic achievements, Sorenstam has
come up empty in each of the last nine US Women's Opens and this fact
hits at something worth noting: The PGA Tour doesn't set up any of
the men's four majors, the LPGA Tour sets up three of its four, and
the one that it doesn't (US Women's Open) is the one that gives
Sorenstam the most trouble.
While Sorenstam's failure to win the third leg of the Grand Slam
surely disappointed the Swede and her loyal group of supporters,
selfishly I breathe a sigh ...
