When a summer production of "HMS Pinafore" sets sail next weekend, the Snug Harbor Community Chorus will be the crew.

For members of the community singing group formed seven years ago, taking the stage at the South Shore Conservatory of Music in Hingham is a combination of summer fun, serious business, and a validation for singers who have not performed in a chorus before.

"It's our summer stock," said Ron del Pino of Marshfield, the group's vice president. "Some people go to Tanglewood. We go to Opera by the Bay, if they'll have us."
