Cardinals righthander Chris Carpenter, who was sidelined with a
right biceps strain in mid-September that ended his 2004 season, will
never forget the feeling of helplessness as he watched his Cardinals
get swept by his beloved Red Sox in the World Series.Carpenter
grew up in Raymond, N.H., as a diehard Sox fan who idolized Roger
Clemens. He may not have gotten the opportunity to pitch against his
favorite team in the Series, but Carpenter, who still makes his home
in Bedford, N.H., forged ahead and put together a stellar 2005
season, one that has him in a dogfight with Dontrelle Willis for the
