Article: `YELLOW BRICK ROAD' FOLLOWS A MOVING IF PATRONIZING PATH

Most of the mentally impaired people in the documentary "Yellow Brick Road" are adults. But Sandy Braun likes to call them "kids." Program director of Long Island's ANCHOR (Answering the Needs of Citizens with Handicaps through Organized Recreation), she sees in them a childlike innocence and vulnerability. "I kind of feel like a mom to them," she says affectionately.

But in the Cinemax movie, which premieres tonight at 7, she's more than a mother to them. She's a teacher, a mentor, a cheerleader, a friend. And a stage director, as she guides them through a production of "The Wizard of Oz" during many months of rehearsal.
