Donna Rhae Marder makes thoroughly impractical quilts and dresses
out of materials such as used coffee filters, matches, and eggshells.
They're not to be worn; they're art. Her witty, poignant show at the
Fuller Craft Museum is full of old stuff most people throw out, which
Marder stitches up with gaudy thread to make work that's strangely
sad, for all its bright colors. The dresses are concerned with memory
and absence; the old materials sewn up into party garb capture the
essence of someone or something ...
