Joseph Harold "Hal" Launders, 88, a real estate broker and
farmer in the Herndon area, died of congestive heart failure Sept.
18 at his home in Herndon.
After World War II, he bought a 300-acre farm in Herndon,
where he raised Angus beef cattle until his death. The founder of
J.H. Launders Real Estate of Herndon, he was a broker and an
investor until shortly before his death.
He was a founding member and a past president of the Committee
for Dulles, a citizen and business group that promotes the airport.
In the 1950s, Mr. Launders sold land for Dulles. He also served as
president of the Herndon Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of
Dulles Airport.
