A FOLK SINGER'S JOURNEY: Tracy Grammer , who tours the folk circuit nationally, visits the Linden Tree Coffeehouse in Wakefield on Saturday.

Grammer was raised in a musical family but put her guitar and violin aside to attend college. During a semester off, her father introduced her to Curtis Coleman , formerly of the New Christy Minstrels. She began performing with him at local pubs and coffeehouses and dove back into music.

In 1996, she moved to Portland, Ore., and saw Dave Carter perform at a songwriter showcase. They began touring together in 1997 and the next year recorded an album, "When I Go," in the kitchen of Grammer's apartment. They recorded two more albums before Carter's death ...
