Article: STATE POLICE LEADER TO LEAVE FOR BU POST

Colonel Thomas G. Robbins, superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police for the past two years, said yesterday that he is resigning to lead the Boston University Police Department.

During his tenure, he sought to revamp the State Police crime laboratory and to restore confidence in the training of recruits, after allegations of abuse rocked the training academy.

Robbins, 48, said his new job, with a far smaller force, was a "a good opportunity for myself and my family."

He said a recent report that found significant problems at the State Police Academy had played no role "whatsoever" in his decision to leave the department, which he has served for 26 years.
