Janet W. McArthur, an endocrinologist who did pioneering research
in the fields of gynecology and obstetrics and who was the first
Massachusetts General Hospital woman physician to become a full
professor at Harvard Medical School, died Oct. 6 at the Skilled
Nursing Facility at North Hill in Needham. She was 92.
"There was no doubt that Janet McArthur was one of the pioneers in
the field of women's health," said Dr. George Richardson, retired
acting chief of the former Vincent Memorial Hospital at MGH.
For four decades, Dr. McArthur was both a clinician and researcher
there, and she served as its co-director before it became known as
the Vincent Obstetrics and Gynecology Service. Her ...
