SHIRLEY - Eric Shapiro, principal owner of Phoenix Park, likes to refer to mythology when describing his small business center in Shirley.

"There is indeed the notion of this place having risen from the ashes," said Shapiro, 45, a Lexington developer and property manager- owner, during a recent conversation with several tenants in the park's main conference room.

Shapiro was using a little poetic license, because the 56-acre property never was burned to the ground. But it did resemble a ghost town when Shapiro purchased the property in 1998 for $100,000 from Enserch Corp. of Dallas.
