EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - He's been an All-Pro linebacker
eight times, yet he's known for a bucket of Gatorade. He's been a
cornerstone of the New York Giants' defense for 11 years, yet his
fame comes from a silly ritual at the end of a game.
"I've been to the Pro Bowl seven times," said inside
linebacker Harry Carson, "but more people know me for throwing
water on a guy."
You've seen it. In the closing seconds of every Giant victory,
Carson sneaks up behind coach Bill Parcells and showers him with
Gatorade or water. Carson doesn't remember when he and nose tackle
Jim Burt began the tradition, but it has become part of the
folklore of the 14-2 team.
