As a boy, one of my great discoveries was the Peabody Museum in
Cambridge. It was full of anynumber of the strangest items:
shrunken heads, Eskimo kayaks, dioramas of pueblos, a gorilla's
hand in a bottle of alcohol, dinosaur bones and footprints, a case
of a hundred hummingbirds, the world's largest beetle, a Tasmanian
devil, lions and tigers and bears, sparkling gems, mummies, shrews,
dinosaur eggs, a giant squid and ever so many things to wonder at.
It was a large dimly lit warehouse of a place ...
