Article: GM EXTENDS THE WARRANTY ON MOST '87 CARS TO 6 YEARS

DETROIT - General Motors Corp. is doubling the life of its warranty against powertrain troubles and corrosion on North American-made cars to six years, beginning with 1987 models, the nation's top automaker announced yesterday.

Industry analysts said GM's move will counter the five-year, 50,000-mile warranty Chrysler Corp. has been offering and promoting in its advertising.

GM's new warranty will last six years or 60,000 miles on the powertrain and six years or 100,000 miles on corrosion protection. Most GM cars previously were covered by a three-year, 36,000-mile powertrain warranty.
