Cleo Laine has been enjoying a run of major success in the past
year.
The versatile British singer/actress last year won a Grammy
and in her Broadway debut was nominated for a Tony for best actress
in a musical.
She won the Grammy for best jazz vocal album for "Cleo at
Carnegie -- The Tenth Anniversary Concert" (DRG) and a Tony
nomination for her role as Princess Puffer in "The Mystery of Edwin
Drood," based on Charles Dickens' unfinished novel. She made
history of sorts with the Grammy Award inasmuch as she was the
first British performer to capture the recording industry statuette
for a jazz album.
Including rehearsal time and a month-long presentation of
"Drood" in Central Park ...
