Jeff and Wendy Hein are standing on the front porch of their
town house in Crofton, praising life in the golf course community of
Walden, a half-hour's drive east of Washington.
"Even though we're in the middle of busy Crofton, you look out
our back window at the golf course and it's like you're in the
country," says Jeff Hein, 33, a NASA scientist transplanted from
Houston. "This is a great stress-reliever."
The Heins don't actually play golf, which is true of many
people moving into the new golf communities popping up throughout
Washington's suburbs. They are seeking something else: open space,
