The Rev. John Keener Mount, 86, who acknowledged his
homosexuality and blessed a same-sex union despite an Episcopal
Church moratorium, died of congestive heart failure June 15 at his
home in Easton, Md.
He shook up the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland in 1992 when he
told church leaders during a task force report on human sexuality at
Solomon's Island that he was a homosexual. He told a Washington Post
reporter that he had kept his sexuality a secret for more than 50
years.
"For me, it's over -- the struggle, the deceptions. And it was
the deception that was the terrible part," Mr. Mount said at the
time.
