Brook Farm in West Roxbury, once home to a 19th-century utopian
community and now the last large tract of undeveloped land in
Boston, may yet be purchased by the state despite years of delays.
The 175-acre site, located on Baker Street near VFW Parkway,
is owned by the Lutheran Service Association of New England, which
operates Gethsemane Cemetery there. Since 1974, the association and
the Metropolitan District Commission have conducted on-again,
off-again negotiations over the sale of most of the property to the
MDC.
According to Benjamin F. Kincannon, deputy director of the
governor's Office of Economic Development, Gov. Dukakis in the next
two weeks will include $3 million for the ...
