Article: DANNY KAYE, COMEDIAN, CHILDREN'S ADVOCATE, DIES

Danny Kaye never told jokes. But Kaye will be remembered as one of the great antic comedians. He prided himself on being able to make kids laugh, even in foreign countries whose language he didn't speak. During the last decades of his life, he took a cue from one of his movies, the 1952 "Hans Christian Andersen." He turned himself into a Pied Piper of goodwill for UNICEF, the United Nations organization devoted to helping sick and needy children. In 1954, he made a movie called "Assignment Children" for UNICEF. And his comic guest-conducting stints on behalf of musicians' pension funds deepened the store of affection in which he was held.
