Article: MARVIN'S MOM IS UNDEFEATED MAE LANG SET TONE FOR MARVELOUS SON

BROCKTON - Mae Lang has a running gag with her son, the middleweight champion. She says to him, "You gained a career, and I lost a son."

This has been Lang's way of telling Marvelous Marvin Hagler that she misses him. After he became champion in 1980, she said, "He got so busy you had to make an appointment to see him."

All of that apparently was on the verge of changing last summer, when at Lang's 49th birthday party Hagler announced that he had a "surprise" for her.

"You got me a car," she said.

"No. You got a son back. I'm retiring."
