Article: FLYNN CITES INCREASE IN JOBS HELD BY CITY RESIDENTS

For the first time since 1950 there has been an increase in the percentage of newly created jobs held by Boston residents, Mayor Flynn announced yesterday.

Of 36,000 private jobs created in Boston in the last three years, 40 percent are held by city residents, a 10 percent increase since 1980, Flynn told a group of developers, business and community leaders at a Parkman House breakfast yesterday.

"Historically, there has been a downside for the many Boston neighborhoods -- many families and individuals -- who have been left behind," Flynn said. "When you examine job trends over the three decades leading up to 1984 a troubling picture emerges."
