Boston and San Francisco are twin cities in many ways. Each is
on a coast, each regards itself as beautiful and civilized, and
each has a love- hate relationship with a much bigger, newer,
brasher city down its coast.
That twinship is the basis for a conference being held on
Friday at Faneuil Hall Marketplace.
The conference -- "Boston Looks at San Francisco: A Symposium
on the San Francisco Downtown Plan" -- is the brainchild of Edward
J. Logue, first director of the Boston Redevelopment Authority and
now an urban consultant and teacher. By holding this conference,
Logue is asking an obvious and important question: Should Boston be
doing what San Francisco is doing?
