Poor Ghent. Despite its own heyday as the ancient capital of
Flanders, it has not been easy living in the shadow of its
celebrated sister-city, Bruges.
On the surface, Bruges is seemingly the more fair of the two.
A diminutive, canal-laced coquette, Bruges lures groves of tourists
seeking Disneylike scenery and a quick fix of never-never land. But
if you yearn for a travel experience richer than Bruges in
substance, depth, variety and stimulation, if you're looking for
more than a Belgian one-night stand, go to Ghent.
Located approximately halfway between Amsterdam and Paris --
