The NBA has opened up an economy - ize can of worms with its
handling of the expansion issue.
The expansion committee has recommended upstart Charlotte,
N.C., and Minneapolis, while saying it couldn't make up its mind
between Orlando, Fla., and Miami for a third franchise. They're
talking about postponing a final decision for six months, but
that's not what either Florida city wants to hear. Make it yes or
no, each of them says, but don't "maybe us." Says Orlando Magic
president Pat Williams, "This is like McDonald's saying, 'We've
narrowed it down to Coke or Pepsi, and we'll make a decision in
late October.' They have unleashed World War III in Florida." A
