WASHINGTON - President Kurt Waldheim of Austria has been
barred from entering the United States because of evidence that he
took part in the persecution of Jews and of others during World War
II, the Reagan administration announced yesterday.
A yearlong Justice Department investigation, triggered by
accusations from Jewish groups that Waldheim was involved in Nazi
war crimes, determined that Waldheim participated in intelligence
activities that led to the mass deportations of Jews, to the
bombing of several Yugoslav villages where partisan activity was
suspected, to the interrogation and possible execution of several
allied prisoners and to the dissemination of propaganda calling for ...
