NEW YORK - Barry Allen, one of four young men shot on a
Manhattan subway by Bernhard H. Goetz, yesterday became the second
of the youths to refuse to testify about the shootings.
Allen, 21, who is in prison for a parole violation, was
questioned out of the presence of the jury during Goetz's trial in
the state Supreme Court.
With his attorney at his side, Allen refused to answer nearly
all questions put to him, including whether he knew any of the
other youths, whether he was wounded by Goetz and whether he
attempted to rob Goetz that Saturday afternoon, Dec. 22, 1984, on
the No. 2 subway train in Manhattan.
