The New England Board of Higher Education has reported that
175 New England colleges and universities still have fall openings
for 27,000 freshmen.
The board also reported openings for 17,000 transfer students
in 233 undergraduate, public and independent schools throughout the
region. This year's vacancies reflect a 13 percent increase over
last year.
However, 55 of the region's more selective institutions
indicated they are no longer accepting applications for the
upcoming fall semester. Likewise, 40 institutions are not accepting
additional transfer applications.
