Article: UNSER REMEMBERS WHEN FOYT GAVE ROOKIE A LIFT

INDIANAPOLIS - Al Unser Sr. was in the Penske Racing Team garage at Indianapolis Motor Speedway yesterday, watching his crew dismantle the 1986 March-Cosworth that carried him to an historic fourth Indianapolis 500 victory Sunday and a funny thought struck him.

In his first full-throttled gallop at the Speedway in 1965, Unser recalled, he arrived a rookie with an unstable ride, the Arciero Brothers' Maserati. The car had failed him in qualifications, and it appeared his debut at Indy was going to be a boondoggle. But that was before A.J. Foyt stepped, or better yet ambled, into the picture.
