A political drama that began with a deathbed promise and developed into a bitter six-year tussle between one of the state's most powerful politicians and a feisty judge has taken a new turn due to a clerical error.

As a result, E. George Daher, the chief administrative justice of the Boston Housing Court, has been drawing his full salary for the past two years in apparent violation of the six-year old state law that restricts his pay.
