SUGARLOAF MOUNTAIN, Maine - Two adventurous Britons plan to
take off tomorrow morning in the first attempt to cross the
Atlantic Ocean in a hot-air balloon.
Hoping to take advantage of abundant sunlight on the longest
day of the year, Richard Branson, a 36-year-old entrepreneur, and
Per Lindstrand, 38, whose company built the balloon, plan to leave
at dawn on their 3,400-mile flight.
Their destination after 3 1/2 days in the air, the longest
their balloon can remain aloft, will be the open fields of
southeastern England. If unable to land there because of wind or
weather, they will continue to France, Holland or another European
country in search of an appropriate landing space. ...
