They're not the Seven Dwarfs any more.
It was the first time that seven different guys more or less
outpointed Bill Buckley, and all on the same night.
So imposing is the stature of the conservative columnist and
talk show host, he of "Firing Line" and National Review and the
Reagan White House, that he is undoubtedly better known to the
public television audience than any of the Democratic presidential
candidates he hosted. Hosted yes, roasted no.
Because despite Buckley's cleverest gibes, his neatest
stilettos, his highest eyebrow lift, he could not deflect the
indictment of Reaganism that spewed from the Seven D's. And if he
can't, who can?
