HANOVER - One of the major obstacles facing the proposed $143
million Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, which would move the
Dartmouth Medical School, Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and the
Hitchcock Clinic from the Dartmouth College campus to a new complex
in nearby Lebanon, was overcome when the Lebanon City Council
approved a zoning change that would allow construction on the
undeveloped 225-acre site.
The new medical center, scheduled for completion in January
1991, would allow the clinic and hospital to modernize facilities,
put the medical school within easy teaching distance of the
hospital, and give the college room to expand on the northern edge
