Although Americans colonists fought the revolution to end British
rule, the leaders of the new nation wrote a constitution that was
influenced in part by the English Magna Carta, which enumerated
many now familiar freedoms and is on display today at Boston City
Hall Plaza.
The free exhibit, which includes other important American
documents, is touring 19 states in a mobile museum as part of the
bicentennial celebration of the Constitution of the United States,
which was signed Sept. 17, 1787 in Philadelphia.
About 150 people per hour took the 15-minute tour yesterday
through a specially-equipped mobile museum housing the artifacts.
