A 43 - ear-old Duxbury man was severely injured yesterday
after he was thrown from a boat near Martha's Vineyard and the
driverless vessel circled around and ran over his legs.
The victim, Robert McGrath, was one of four occupants of an
18-foot boat traveling in the Muskeget Channel near Martha's
Vineyard when the vessel hit a strong wave that threw the group
overboard, said Coast Guard Petty Officer James Tonnessen.
The four were swimming in the channel when the boat, propelled
by an outboard motor, circled around and ran over the legs of
McGrath, the pilot of the boat. He was picked up by a Coast Guard
cutter, The Bonita, whose crew members administered first aid.
