For goalie Cleon Daskalakis, the time for decision came early this summer. He faced it and made his choice.

"I'm leaving the city I love for the country I love; it's like moving from a pond to the ocean," he said before leaving for the US Olympic team camp at Lake Placid this weekend.

He wasn't "gassed by the Bruins," he said. "I was offered a contract and I turned it down. It was my option, my choice, my decision to leave. I had a clause that gave me my walking papers if I wanted them." And he stepped through that opening to try something that has been a long-standing objective in his checkered career -- to make the US Olympic team.
