Article: KENMORE SQUARE BU GETS APPROVAL TO BUY BUILDINGS PLANS FOR PROPERTY SUBJECT TO BRA REVIEW

Boston University was authorized yesterday to buy six buildings in Kenmore Square, including a 2,500-seat dance club, by the Boston Redevelopment Authority's board of directors.

The university's purchase and sale agreement with Henry Vara for the Kenmore Square properties expires tomorrow, but BRA approval is needed for BU to buy buildings outside the boundaries of its Charles River campus under a master plan agreement with the city.

The board voted to approve the sale of 533-541 Commonwealth Ave. and 508-510 Commonwealth Ave., provided BU does not use the property for housing students and that any plans or designs for the buildings would be subject to BRA review and approval.
