Article: THE MANY REMEMBER ELVIS

MEMPHIS - Out of the roughly 50,000 Elvis Presley fans who came here last week to pay their respects to the most successful rock star of them all, a weary core of several thousand crammed into an auditorium yesterday afternoon to hear from the King's friends and relatives.

Some cried and others dozed, worn out from a nightlong candlelight procession past Elvis' grave at Graceland, the suburban mansion where he lived for 20 years until his fatal heart attack on Aug. 16, 1977.

The dozen speakers in Memphis State University's theater thanked the overflow crowd for its devotion and told stories about the man who introduced rock 'n' roll to much of the world.
