Gen. Nikolai Cherov is Ronald Reagan's kind of Russian.
"Please feel free," Gen. Cherov told American arms control
negotiators, "to come to our test ranges with a nuclear device of
your own and explode it there. . ."
Ever since the Gipper's open-mike gaffe in which he playfully
warned Moscow "the bombing begins in five minutes," many suspect
he'd like nothing better than to plant a nuke on Russki territory.
Now Cherov invites him to do just that.
But, glasnost explains all. Cherov's offer depends on the
United States allowing the Soviets to pop their own firecracker at
our test site, so both nations can calibrate instruments that
detect whether the other guys are cheating on nuke ...
